India reported its first case of Omicron subvariant BQ.1 in Pune, Maharashtra

 On Tuesday, India reported its first case of Omicron subvariant BQ.1 in Pune, Maharashtra. The new variant descends from BA. Citing a 17.7% rise in coronavirus cases in Maharashtra this week, the state health department warned Monday of the risk of a surge in Covid-19 cases in the state during the winter and Christmas season. New BA.20 and BQ.1 variants have been detected in the state, with the number of reported cases increasing in densely populated parts of the state: Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.

It was also reported that the proportion of cases of omicron subvariant BA.75 fell from 95 to 76 percent. Amidst this, the state health department warned that people should not ignore flu-like symptoms and seek medical attention as a priority, and also issued a word on the need to adhere to Covid-appropriate behavior as a priority.

"You should observe appropriate Covid-19 behavior as soon as possible. People with comorbidities should take extra precautions when visiting public places. People suffering from flu-like illnesses should avoid public contact as much as possible", says the bulletin of the State Department. recommended.

The state of Maharashtra has reported cases of the new XBB variant, which has a growth advantage over BA.75 and also has immune-vasive properties. Apart from that, Omicron BA.7 and BA.7 subvariants, which are known to be highly infectious and transmissible, were recently discovered by Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center.
