RameshBabu Praggnanandhaa finished runner up in the FIDE World Cup 2023. After three days and four extremely nervous chess games in two formats, Magnus Carlsen finally won the FIDE World Cup for the first time in his career. Carlsen defeated R.Praggnanandhaa in the final but the 18-year-old dragged him into overtime. The world No. 1 beat Praggnanandhaa 1.5-0.5 in the first tiebreak and to a draw by 22 in the second set.Carlsen's win was confirmed after the second game of the tiebreaker. The two players each played a draw.
On the way to the final, Praggnanandhaa defeated World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura and No. 3 Fabiano Caruana! By winning the silver medal, Praggnanandhaa also secured a ticket for FIDE candidates, the International Chess Federation tweeted.
The 18-year-old was also the third youngest player to qualify for the 2024 Candidates Tournament, after legends Bobby Fischer and Carlsen.
The 18-year-old Wonderboy has long been seen as the heir to the abilities of five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand and remains firmly on his way towards greatness in chess. He is the only Indian player after Anand to win a spot among the contenders and beat Carlsen in an online tournament last year.

In FIDE Chess World Cup 2023 Magnus Carlsen proved why he is considered a chess master by winning the most skillful game. And because of his outstanding skills, the winner along with the trophy will receive a huge amount of USD 110,000, which if converted to INR is equivalent to about Rs 90,93,551.

Praggnanandhaa , who turned 18 at the World Championships, was the youngest World Cup finalist in history and the youngest World Cup winner. Seeded 31, Pragg is also the lowest-ranked player to ever reach a World Cup final.
Praggnanandhaa has been in the spotlight since his young age. He won the national under 7 title, set a record and has gone from strength to strength ever since. At the age of 10 he became international champion and two years later overall champion. In 2019, at the age of 14 years and three months, he reached an ELO rating of 2,600 and appeared to have peaked.
Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa born on 10th August 2005 is an Indian chess grandmaster. A chess prodigy, he became an international grandmaster at the age of 10, the youngest at the time, and a grandmaster at 12, the second youngest at that time. On February 22, 2022, at the age of 16, he became the youngest player to defeat then-world champion Magnus Carlsen when he defeated Carlsen in a fast game at the Airthings Masters Rapid Chess Championship. (a record since it was destroyed by Gukesh D, January 16, 2022).
He was strong before the Covid-19 pandemic hit and brought the world to a standstill. However, the Chennai teenager has used the situation to hone his skills in online tournaments.

The support of his family, especially his mother, was a major factor in his development as a player. His mother, Nagalakshmi, regularly attends the tournaments he participates in and seems to feed off of her precious presence.
