World Rhinoceros Day is celebrated on September 22nd each year to raise awareness of the different rhino species and the dangers they face. Species of horned, Javan and white rhinos. In addition, the day offers NGOs, zoos and the general public the opportunity to honor rhinos in a special way. This day aims to spread the importance of protecting these animals as rhinos are threatened with extinction in the wild over many years due to poaching and habitat loss.
THEME
This year's World Rhino Day is celebrated under the motto: Five Species of Rhinos Forever. The goals of this day are to further the noble cause of raising awareness of the need to save rhinos from mortal danger. Rhinos are constantly under serious threat. Due to deforestation, industrialization and related human activities, Rhino's life is in danger. It is therefore important to raise the awareness of future generations.
HISTORY
The announcement of the day was made by WWF South Africa in 2010. When Lisa Jane Campbell, founder of Annamitici and owner of Chishakwe Ranch in Zimbabwe, partnered with Rhishja Cota, the event's creative director, in 2011 to raise awareness of the need to save or protect the five species of rhino from extinction protection. The annual celebration received worldwide recognition. World Rhino Day was first celebrated in 2011 and since then it has been celebrated every a year around the world.
IMPORTANCE
The rhino is an endangered species due to poaching, climate change and disturbances in its natural environment. The annual commemoration of the day underscores the spread of awareness of the need to protect and care for rhino species around the world. Today, three species of rhino are considered critically endangered: the black rhino, the Javan rhino and the Sumatran rhino.
