International Day of Peace 2022

"International Day of Peace" is celebrated worldwide on September 21st. The day is commemorated and dedicated by the United Nations General Assembly to strengthen the ideals of peace through the observance of 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire.  

The International Day of Peace 2022 is commemorated with the goal of creating a world where compassion and empathy overcome mistrust and hatred. That's all you need to know about the day. 

 António Guterres UN Secretary-General said:

"Racism continues to poison the institutions, social structures and daily life of all societies. It remains a stubborn engine of inequality. And it continues to deny people their basic human rights. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, undermines the legitimacy of governments, and the links between racism and gender inequality are unmistakable."

THEME

The theme of the International Day of Peace 2022 is “End racism. Build peace.” The day will be dedicated to creating a new world free from racism and racial discrimination. 

HISTORY

The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981.The General Assembly voted unanimously nearly two decades later, in 2001, to declare the day a time of nonviolence and a ceasefire.  

 CELEBRATION 2022

 Each year on the International Day of Peace, the UN invites all nations and peoples to commemorate the day through education and public awareness-raising on peace-related issues. In addition, the United Nations is asking people to honor a cessation of hostilities on the day of September 21. This year, the International Day of Peace was celebrated on September 16, 2022 at United Nations Headquarters.

The Secretary General and the President of the General Assembly rang the Peace Bell at the event.
